Dr Michael Olufemi Taiwo, FMCGDP, PNMC, DFMC, College Past President, has died at the age of 70. He died at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi Araba, Lagos on the December 10, 2014 after a brief illness.
He was a well respected Fellow of the College in the Faculty of General Dental Practice for which he served as a Trainer and Examiner for many years and ultimately as the Faculty Chairman
He served as the College President from January 2008 to December 2009. He was honoured with the Distinguished Fellowship Award (DFMC) in 2012. Until his death, he was the Chairman of the Past Presidents’ Forum and a member of the Governing Board of the College. He was actually at the last meeting of the Governing Board of December 4, 2014 from where he suddenly took ill.
He will be fondly remembered for his immense contributions to the growth of the College and Postgraduate Medical Education in Nigeria.
Funeral service was held on Friday January 16, 2015 at St. Cyprian Catholic Church, Old Oko Oba, Abule Egba. His remains was later laid to rest at his residence in Abule Egba, Lagos. He is survived by his wife, children, grand children, brothers and sisters.
Present at the Funeral Service were Prof. Victor C. Wakwe, FMCPath, PNMC, DFMC, Immediate Past President, Dr. S. S. Sule, FMCPH, Deputy Registrar, (Academic), Dr. Juliana O. Taiwo, FMCGDP, Chairman of Faculty of General Dental Practice, Dr. K. O. Akinlaja, FMCGDP, Past Chairman. Others were Dr. Ebegwe, FMCGDP and other Faculty Board members. Mr. Adekunle Lawson, (Deputy Secretary, Faculty Affairs) also attended with other members of Staff of the College.
