Professor Peter Ndidi Ebeigbe, MBBS (Benin), DMAS (India), MPH (Liverpool), MD, FWACS, FMCOG (Nig), FICS
Professor Peter Ndidi Ebeigbe was born on the 19th of May 1970, at Agbor in Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State. He had his primary school education at Nosieri Primary School, Agbor Obi and Igumbor Otiku Primary School, Agbor between 1975 and 1981. He subsequently attended Ika Grammar School Agbor, between 1981 and 1986, graduating as the best student with seven distinctions.
Professor Ebeigbe was admitted in the first batch to study Medicine and Surgery at the University of Benin in November 1987 and graduated with the MBBS degree in March,1994. After his housemanship at the General Hospital Bida, Niger State, he proceeded to Kwara State for his NYSC at the General Hospital Erin-Ile, between 1995 and 1996. He was retained by the Kwara State Ministry of Health and served as a medical officer until June 1998 when he went for residency training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
He did his residency training at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital Benin, between 1998 and 2003. He passed the Part 2 examinations of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria in May 2003 and the West African College of Surgeons in October 2003. Professor Ebeigbe has also had other academic training including obtaining a Diploma in Minimal Access Surgery and a Certificate in Assisted Reproductive Technology in 2013, Master in Public Health from the University of Liverpool in 2015, with subspecialization in International Public Health and the postgraduate Doctor of Medicine (DM) degree from the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria in 2020.
Professor Peter Ndidi Ebeigbe was appointed as a lecturer 1 in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the Delta State University Abraka, in November 2003 and rose through the ranks to attain the position of professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology on October 1st, 2012. He at various times served as Head of Department, Director of Medical Education in the College of Health Sciences and member of various University Committees including the Strategic Planning Committee, Research and Publications Committee and University Health Committee. He was Chairman, University Innovations, Research and Implementation Committee and was elected Provost of the College of Health Sciences, for two terms, from 2014 to 2018. During his tenure, all the bachelor degree and postgraduate programmes in the College, including the MBBS programme were re-accredited by the NUC and the professional regulatory bodies. As Provost of the College of Health Sciences, he was a member of the Delta State University Teaching Hospital Management Board Oghara, between 2016 and 2018 and served as Chairman of the Clinical Services and Training Committee of the Board meritoriously.
At the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, Professor Ebeigbe served in the Faculty Board of Obstetrics and Gynaecology between 2010 and 2021 during which time he was elected as Faculty Secretary for two terms and Faculty Chairman for two terms, unopposed. He has served the College on numerous committees including the Computerization Committee, Docimology Committee, MD Degree Implementation Committee, Ceremonies Committee and Bye Laws Committee. He was the pioneer Chairman of the International Collaboration and Accreditation Committee of the College between 2020-2021.
He has over 70 scientific publications in local and international journals and has edited five textbooks for undergraduates and postgraduates in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. These are used widely in Nigeria and overseas. Professor Ebeigbe has supervised many dissertations for the Part 2 examinations of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria and the West African College of Surgeons. He has also been an examiner for both the Part I and 2 examinations of both colleges for many years. He has been appointed external examiner to several medical schools in the past including the University of Calabar, Niger Delta University, Igbinedion University, Babcock University and the University of Uyo. He has served as external assessor of candidates for the position of associate professor and professor for several universities including the University of Maiduguri, Ahmadu Bello University, University of Calabar, Benue State University, University of Uyo and Ambrose Alli University among others.
He is a member of several professional bodies including the Nigerian Medical Association, Society of Gynaecology and Obstetrics of Nigeria, Association of Gynaecologic Endoscopy Surgeons, The Association of Fetomaternal Medicine of Nigeria, World Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons and International College of Surgeons.
He is married to Professor Jennifer Ebeigbe and they are blessed with three children.
