Investiture of Dr. Ikefuna as 24th College President

The National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (NPMCN) has formally inaugurated Dr. Ikefuna as its 24th President during a grand Investiture Ceremony in Lagos. In his inaugural address, Dr. Ikefuna pledged to strengthen postgraduate medical training, enhance the College’s visibility, and expand its academic frontiers.

He emphasized that NPMCN remains Nigeria’s foremost postgraduate medical institution, producing highly qualified specialists for the nation’s healthcare system. Acknowledging the contributions of past leaders, Dr. Ikefuna reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining the College’s reputation for excellence.

Key highlights of his vision include:

  • Enhanced Visibility: Launch of periodic newsletters, bimonthly online lectures, and encouragement for Fellows to use NPMCN as their official scholarly affiliation.
  • Faculty Restructuring: Reorganization of Faculties to include Senate-approved subspecialties as departments, ensuring balance and robust deliberations.
  • Quality Assurance: Upholding global best practices in examinations, introducing a College-wide quality assessment tool, and unveiling the Dr. Christopher Ekundayo Famewo Quality Assurance Prize to reward excellence.
  • Academic Innovation: Progress towards a pre-Fellowship PhD programme, adoption of plagiarism detection tools, and competency-based formative assessments using electronic portfolios.
  • Infrastructure Development: Establishment of a dedicated Computer-Based Test (CBT) Centre, Clinical Skills and Simulation Laboratories in Lagos, Abuja, Enugu, and Kano, as well as an ICT-enabled Telemedicine Centre.
  • Welfare and Facilities: Improved guest accommodation, upgraded road networks, and enhanced aesthetics within the College premises.
