A delegation led by College President, Dr. Rasheed A. Arogundade paid a courtesy visit to the Governor of Ondo state, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko on Friday December 19, 2014.
Speaking at the event, Prof. Arogundade thanked Governor Mimiko for personally attending the last Convocation Ceremony of the College and staying till the very end. He commended the Governor for his excellent record of successes in reducing maternal and child mortality in the state through remarkable outstanding and unparalleled initiatives and giant steps in Primary Health care. He further disclosed that in view of the Governor’s commitment to ensure quality health care services for the people of Ondo state, the College has recognized him as one of the distinguished members of the profession in political office who is worthy of emulation and the College would like to partner with.
The College President used the opportunity to lay bare some of the challenges facing the College such as gross under funding by the Federal Government, poorly stocked Medical Library, under-developed College Museum for Anatomic Pathology and extremely slow pace of Infrastructural development of the College among others.
On the College’s specific and urgent needs, Prof. Arogundade solicited for the Governor’s assistance to fund the construction of a fully equipped Clinic with an Ambulance in the College premises to cater for Staff, Fellows and Associate Fellows who congregate in the College for meetings, workshops, examinations, convocations and many other activities.
In his remark, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, while appreciating the College delegation for the visit responded positively to the College’s requests. He assured the gathering of his administration’s continued commitment to the provision of quality and accessible health care services. He also assured the delegation of the full participation of his administration in College activities including the Annual Convocation Ceremonies.
The highlight of the visit was the presentation to the Governor of Certificate of Accreditation for Postgraduate Medical training in Orthopaedics and General Surgery at the State owned Ondo State Trauma & Surgical Centre, Akure as approved by the College Senate.
Dr. Rasheed A. Arogundade was accompanied by the College Registrar, Dr. Oluwole Ayoola Atoyebi, Deputy Registrar, Administration, Dr. Oyenike Ekekezie and Mrs. Abimbola Agbaje, Secretary to the College President.
